Video: KAUST architecture exhibits sustainability in a changing climate
Desh | Oct 19 2009

The King Abdullah University of Science and Technology at Thuwal in Rabigh, Saudi Arabia, is a pulsating specimen of unique eco-architecture. The campus design touts a gratifying blend of Islamic tradition and architectural modernity falling in line with the harsh climatic conditions of Saudi Arabia. Designed by Bill Odell of HOK Architects, the low-energy KAUST buildings exhibit unitary self-shading, solar towers and natural ventilation.

Video after the jump:

The quadrangular structural design is big enough to house various learning centers of the university. Two million square feet of lab space, making place for interconnected complex of four five-story, 500,000-sq.-ft. buildings, says it all. Situated along the Red Sea, the eco-friendly university allows its students to pursue their research on biosciences and engineering, materials science and engineering, energy and the environment, and applied mathematics and computational science.
