Retired engineer relives his early days by making kites from plastic bags
Desh | Nov 9 2009

Until now, I could not remember any exceptions to the cliche that says childhood never returns. However, a recent instance, where a retired construction engineer Han Fushan from Beijing relived those fading memories, made me do a double take on it. Well, he can peep into his childhood in a green way by making kites out of plastic bags.

Why plastic bags?

If you call it a business, he has been into it for nine years and has been recycling plastic bags in imparting them with a different use. Since “plastic bags are the cheapest, easiest thing available” in China, his plastic kites’ collection is swelling up every week. He has made 600 kites so far. If you feel like owning one, he sells them for less than 15 U.S. cents a pop.

The 71-years-old has his fans:

Kites are my one and only treasure. Whenever I think about my kites, I feel fulfilled and positive. It’s because of kites that I got to know so many people and make so many friends. From old to young, male or female, everyone wants to talk to me.

It really feels nice to get such recommendations for one’s job. Where it serves a definitive purpose, i.e. reliving those green childhood moments, it becomes worth cherishing.
