Developed at Sheffiel Hallam University, the Liquid Granite made from 70 percent recycled material reduces fire risk in buildings that are exposed to such risks so often. Minimizing its reliance on the cement used in precast concrete by one third, the new material can survive high temperatures when it senses fire.
Liquid Granite is a very versatile material that can be used in a similar way to concrete. The fact it has a high level of fire resistance means that it can be used in areas where fire safety is crucial, such as around power stations, and in domestic and commercial buildings it can offer added time for evacuation in case of an emergency.
Says Professor Pal Mangat, the Director of the Centre of Infrastructure Management at Sheffield Hallam University, suggesting its resistance to temperatures over 1100 degrees Celsius. Having won wide acclaims, you will see it utilized at the Olympic Village and Stratford Shopping Center in London.
